The Eyelashes Of The Beheld

All In The Eyelashes

Women get Botoxed, tummy tucked, fat sucked, lips plumped and boob jobbed.

Just when they are maybe at the point of accepting the way they look, they are told that they can get eyelash transplants.

I am wide-eyed with amazement. Or as wide-eyed as a 41-year-old Chinese woman with sagging lids can get.

Eyelash transplants were primarily done on burn patients or people with congenital malformations of the eye. Now women are requesting it for cosmetic reasons.

How it is done: a small incision is made at the back of the scalp to remove 30 or 40 hair follicles which are carefully sewn one by one onto the patient’s eyelids. Only light sedation and local anesthetics are used and the cost is around $3,000 an eye.

They do require some maintenance. The transplanted eyelashes grow just like head hair so they need to be trimmed regularly. I guess the time saved by not applying mascara or gluing on extensions can be used for eyelash trimming.

I dunno. Is this what men are looking for? From my experience, men aren’t much into the subtleties of eyelash lengths. If they don’t notice a woman’s new haircut, do you think they are going to notice the length or thickness of their eyelashes?

Women: Be honest – would you be getting eyelash transplants for yourself or to attract men? Uh-huh. Thought so.

Men: Be honest – Are a woman’s eyes what you notice first?

Look me in the eyes when you answer.

Uh-huh. Thought so.

A few years ago, a friend told me about Korean women having surgery to have the size of their calf muscle reduced. Initially, I thought she was kidding about it until I found an article on the web discussing it.
    (Article: http://www2.gol.com/users/coynerhm/some_korean_women_are_taking_gre.htm)

There have been surveys stating that attractive men and women climb the corporate ladder faster and make more money than their counterparts. As the saying goes, spend money to make money. And cosmetic surgery may have that high ROI people are looking for.

Hey, Sewell – I read that article – scary! I can’t imagine actually having nerves and muscles cut to reduce a part of me in size. Fat removal is one thing, but cutting into muscle?

It appears that each culture has its own definition of physical perfection. In Brazil, they are big on having ‘butt lifts’.

It all reminds me of this comic I read a long time ago, one of those scary science-fiction/creepy type comics. In the story, you see the woman going through all sorts of procedures to make her beautiful. You also see the man do the same. They are both attracted to each other’s beautiful appearance, fall in love, get married. Then she gets pregnant and when they both see their child for the first time, it is a bad combination of all their original features and they are shown in the final panel with expressions of shock.

I have also read that attractive men and women climb the corporate ladder faster. I’ve also read that there is a disproportionate number of tall men who are CEOs or directors of companies.

Age discrimation is a reality and I can see why men do some nipping and tucking to look younger. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of awareness to ignore looks and see the person for who they are.
