Giving To Receive

Ms. Q had the sudden need to do some research. This was brought on by the deluge of commercials showing men presenting women with gifts of diamonds and gold.

I have a specialized research methodology. If you are unfamiliar with my methodology, you may refer to Rear View.

Unless you do not watch television, you would be hard-pressed to escape from some variation of this scene:

Man shares tender moment with woman. Select from (A-E):

A. He is snuggling with her on the couch.
B. He is snuggling with her on the floor in front of a cozy wood fire.
C. He sneaks up behind her to kiss her on the back of her neck.
D. He is gazing at her adoringly over an intimate candlelight dinner.
E. Again with the snuggling, this time at the base of a Christmas tree.

Man presents small-hinged box to woman. Upon opening the box, the woman (select from A-C):

A. Flings her arms around the man in tearful joy
B. Opens her eyes in jaw-dropping amazement
C. Smiles tenderly at the man with tears in her eyes

All variations end with:

The woman puts on the contents of the box and then kisses the man.

Yes, Ms. Q found this all quite touching. It brought a tear (singular) to my eye. Or that may have been due to the sip of Chivas. For the diminutive Ms. Q, a sip of Chivas is all that is needed to Cut To The Chase with respect to Research and Recovery (of my equilibrium).

I conclude that these commercials are covering all the bases with respect to their target audience:

Female Viewer’s interpretation: Jewelry is evidence of a Man’s Love.
Male Viewer’s interpretation: Jewelry is the first step to Getting Some … Love.

A kiss may begin with ‘K’ but jewelry gets you Something-That-Starts-With-’L'-and-Rhymes-With-’K’
