Why A Cold Is Like A Hangover

Published by MsQ at 11:55 am under General, QMusements

Cold or Hangover? Looks the same.

Ms. Q has a cold.

Ms. Q is seriously irritated at all this getting sick business as she eats healthily, exercises regularly, ingests supplements and consistently purifies her system with red wine.

She even uses adverbs properly.

As I lay in my Kleenex-infested bed, odder than usual thoughts managed to seep into my sluggish head.

  • I have a pounding headache.
  • My eyes are sensitive.
  • My stomach is upset.
  • My mouth tastes bad.
  • I am dehydrated.
  • I am weak and light-headed.
  • I am not thinking clearly.

In fact, thinking is less about connecting the dots and more about realizing that something is a dot.

Despite feeling like I have a nail in my eye, I realized that having a cold was a lot like being hungover.

Not that I’ve ever been hungover. Ms. Q never drinks to excess. NUh-uh.

Ms. Q has only heard about the symptoms, never experienced them. Really.

Except for the nasal effluvia, a cold is like a hangover.

Without the party the night before.

That’s no fun having a cold. I have an irritating cough and being inside while at work doesn’t help it at all.

Tyler: Thanks for stopping by! It allowed me to discover your blog which is a lot of fun.

I’m sorry you have a cough. Hope yours goes away soon and you’re out hiking again – I gather you like hiking! Of course it’s probably too could as yet for that where you are.

You know how sometimes you try to do things when you’re shnockered, and you’re sure you look like a complete gymboid? I’ve had that with my current cold, and the one I had just a little bit before this.

The bad part of the timing is that at work, we’re trying to wrap up our product release, so i’ve had to work through this. I suppose I could have bailed, but it woulda been letting the team down when we need to pull together to get stuff done. I have been leaning on my coworkers to help out with some of the stuff when it gets to a point that it’s just overwhelming my ability to think anywhere near coherently. At least we’re wrapped up enough soon that I can really rest for a bit and try to take care of myself. (and banish the cold to the demon-plane from whence it was summoned by some awful dark wizard!)

    Punchy? Me? never. :-)

Hey, ack: Luckily I haven’t had too many shnockered-in-public moments. I save tipsy for small intimate gatherings!

I can see you’re punchy what with the demon-plane and dark wizards. I am trying to picture you in one of your aforementioned tie-dyed or Hawaiian shirts banishing the PhantasmaGord of Phlegm from your corporal body.

My cold is almost gone – I am on the low-energy stage right now. I just had a chiropractic adjustment this afternoon because the travel and cold tightened me up but good.

I knew stuff was blocked and after the adjustment my energy levels as well as mood increased for the better. You might consider it. That and a massage to move out the toxins. I have a massage scheduled this week, too.

My cold is mostly gone now, fortunately. I did go in to see my massage therapist that i see regularly. I’ve been seeing her for a couple of years now, so she knows me & my body pretty darned well by now. She did a little energy work as well.

All colds are minifestations of evil summons from the demon-plane. :-|

The bad part about my cold – my mother came over and appears to have come down with it too. :-( So, now she’s going through what I went through. But, she has 4 cats to cuddle with and make her feel better.
