I Bet We Have the Same Furniture

I’ve been meaning to get real furniture for a while.
Real furniture is stuff that I have actually considered, picked out and purchased.
I do have some real furniture – a couple of bookcases, my desk, and an armoire.
I also have all this garage sale and hand-me-down wicker. This is not real furniture.
If you saw my home you’d think I was Big On Wicker.
Every time I get myself psyched up to look for furniture I come up with a pretty good excuse not to. Last year I went to Cape Town.
Sorry! No time to shop! Places to go, people to see!
What do I need? Well…I need a new dresser, preferably two. I need a couple of floor lamps.
I should probably get a couch.
I should replace my 5-foot folding table with a real dining table. This means I have to get dining room chairs.
Anyway, I bet we have some of the same furniture. How many of you have one of those papasan chairs?
If you don’t have a papasan chair, I bet you know someone who does.
I don’t have a papasan chair but I do have the ottoman. It was on the sidewalk with no cushion and a sign on it that said, “Free.”
Hel-LO end table.
Or how about Lego-Matic Moving Boxes? Everyone has some configuration of moving boxes that have become furniture. Stack a couple of standard moving boxes next to your bed, a cheap table lamp, a few paperbacks and you’re good to go.
Perhaps you decided to shell out a few bucks and invested in few plastic storage bins. Keep stacking those bins and you got yourself a dresser.
Am I right? Do you have some of the same furniture as I do?
How much wicker is too much?
I had so much wicker around me as a kid . . . .I’m so traumatized with wicker now . . . i will never ever buy it ever again!
Gary: That’s rough. I’m sorry you were traumatized. Do your parents still reside with wicker or have they moved to solid furniture?
If you enter someone’s home and they have a papasan chair does it make you break out in a cold sweat?
Wicker always struck me as temporary furniture. It seems to me that wicker furniture alway squeaks, gives me splinters and becomes soft over the years. Give me plastic storage bins!
Jake: I know what you mean about wicker seeming temporary. I don’t mind small wicker stuff or a few pieces. I just don’t want things all wicker-fied.
I also am well aware of the squeaks and splinters. Never get a wicker bed. BAD IDEA.
Why am I suddenly thinking of the movie title “The Wicker Man”? (and i never saw either version of the flick!)
No wicker, but I actually had considered one of those papasan chairs off and on. I kept wondering if it would really be comfortable though.
I do have a box that’s doing fabulous duty right now as a table. While not a moving box, it’s close enough. It was the box my shredder came in. I soooo want to replace it, but haven’t had time to get going and look for something.
ack: I have sat in a papasan chair and they are comfy. Since I’m so small, it’s difficult for me to extricated myself from what feels like a giant catcher’s mitt.
As Jake mentioned wicker DOES squeak.
Your shredder box is probably more high-end than a moving box. Does it have a glossy finish? Much nicer, hey?
Yup, glossy finish. But, the pics of the shredder and all the advertising junk is getting old. (not that i get much time to stare at it.)
I spotted some stuff I want to get in an ad from Target, so I think I’ll stop there sometime his week to add to the furniture total in my place.
