Final Evening in Cape Town
I am stuffed with fantastic food and wonderful wine – my final evening in South Africa.
Laverne and Shirley asked me what I wanted to do and I said I wanted to stay at home and enjoy a braai, what Americans would call barbeque. It was just Laverne, Shirley and me.
Braais are very South African.
I made salad. I also baked a sweet potato as per Shirley’s instructions. Laverne handled the braai and she braaied ostrich, lamb sausage and chicken kabob.
Home with friends and sipping wine.
Freakin’ fantastic. This trip has passed too quickly.
Tomorrow – London bound!
I’ve never had ostrich or lamb…was it any good?
-Gregg
Gregg: ostrich is very lean and a bit bland. It’s one of those type of meats you have to marinate or roast to make tender. I like it. Lamb has a strong taste – some people don’t like it. I like it and it’s very easy to cook at least with respect to lamb chops. You just have to broil them with some salt and pepper and rosemary.
I like lamb and it is one of the few meats I can still eat without breaking out in hives. Which greatly saddens me because when I was in Germany the Gyro carts all used lamb meat. Back in the USA they all use beef!
I miss my gyro fix!
HMTKSteve: no lamb gyros where you are? That sucks! I think that I can get lamb gyros where I live but I live in a place where you can get all sorts of food…and wine…
