Wearing O’ The Green
I’m not Irish.
I have dated an Irish guy though. He had the reddish hair and freckles and everything.
I had an Irish landlord. Mr. O-Apostrophe. He had the lilting Irish accent and everything. Other than that, he wasn’t all that lilty.
Anyway, I figgered what the O-hey and I wore green today in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. Theoretically, this means I avoid getting pinched. Like I’m gonna let someone pinch me if I’m not wearing green!
I don’t like getting pinched. When I was a kid, adults would pinch my cheeks. I don’t like my cheeks pinched.
Any of them.
But I do like the color green.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!
………………………………………….
And a matching necklace!
I didn’t like getting pinched because I didn’t know any of these people who said to me, “Remember me? I’m your cousin’s aunt,” or, “Look how big you are. Remember I babysat you for three years?”
So no. I didn’t remember, and I still don’t remember. And get your filthy hands away from my clean cheeks.
And don’t kick me playfully in the butt, either. It will give me a complex later in life.
When you say you don’t like you cheeks pinched, do you mean all four of them? Is it just me or did I take it where it wasn’t in the first place.
I’ve never heard of people being pinched for not wearing great. I didn’t realize it was St. Patricks day until I got to work. I actually have green on today. I didn’t plan it. It isn’t a solid green shirt but it does have a green strip in it.
Hope you drink up and have fun.
You get pinched too? I have that “You’re so cute and liiiiiitttle” pinch. Ugh.
I mean, I get that pinch, not I have that pinch.
Proofreading is my friend.
PITS: Yeah, I do my best when it comes to accessorizing! I also made the necklace!
You’re giving me bad flashbacks what with the relatives asking if I remember them! I try not to do that with my younger relatives plus I never pinch children’s cheeks and I try not to ruffle hair! I am tempted to ruffle hair, though. Children do have the softest looking skin and hair!
Another bad flashback about the “playful” butt-kicking! Eeeee!
UT: Good catch on the “all of’em!” and yes, I did mean all four!!
I also guess that you had a typo and mean “green” instead of “great.” I learned about the pinching thing when I was in grade school. Not sure where it originated from but if you google St. Patricks and Pinch I am sure you’ll find something! No drinking for me! My new schedule doesn’t make for good weekday drinking…
Sue: Yeah, I got pinched as a child. I mean, I’m small now so think how small I was as a child! Plus, I had fairly large eyes for a Chinese kid so I had the adorable thing going on. It figgers you’d get pinched too, what with being petite and blonde – I am sure you were an adorable kid! (”Oooh, so shweet!” Pinch-pinch..)
I dated like three Irish guys in a row. I never understood when I moved to Texas that St. Patrick’s day wasn’t the huge deal it always was in Vermont. Looks like a pretty color green and looks like it’s a good color on you!
I guess my pants were sort of a dusty green today. I didn’t really think about it, but then again I’m on spring break & the only place I went was the dentist. He and he had more painful stuff in store for my kids & me than mere pinching anyway.
Like Urban Thought, I accidentally wore green to work today.
It’s been such long time since I’ve been pinched that I might welcome it.
Jill: Hmm…were the Irish guys all in Vermont? And did any of the “luck o’ the Irish” rub off on you??
Thanks for the compliments on the color – and it didn’t look that bad on me! I tend to wear earth tones and muted colors and have only recently begun wearing more bright stuff like that green shirt (I have another one in orange – I tend to buy in bulk) and pink and red.
I’m wearing what you might call dusty green pants today. I think the LLBean catalogue called it “Sage” or maybe “Pine.” Corduroys.
I hope you and your kids made it through your dental visits relatively pain-free!
delmer: hmmm..on the pinching. But maybe it’s different for men…
Pinching isn’t my thing. Depending on the uh, context, nibbling and scratching are…well..[daydream]
It does seem like you have very pinchable cheeks Ms.Q. I’m just saying…….
Yes, it was a typo.
Ricardo: I’m very flattered! Thanks!
UT: Hehehee!
Despite the hiding of your face it’s apparent to us all that you are lovely. don’t ever change.
Even though most of have never seen your face, it looks like green is a good color for you … and the pinching?? I claim ignorance on that one. I never knew about this custom! I wrote on my St Pat’s post about how I “thought” I was Irish for years, and then ultimately realized that I’m not – at all.
I do love green; green clothes, green grass, green jello, green shoes … well, maybe not green shoes
Hope the new job is going great,
Eric
Ricardo: I’m basking in the afterglow. Thank you again.
Speedy!! I have to check out your St. Pat’s post! I’m soooo behind on my blog reading. I do like the color green and it’s only been recently that I’ve gotten more clothing in this color. Ditto orange.
I learned about pinching in grade school. Seems like grade school is where you learn all these whacky rules where you get hurt if you don’t follow them! Lucky you that you never learned about St. Patrick’s Day pinching! Not that I was ever pinched or pinched much on St. Pat’s.
You *thought* you were Irish?? Hmmm. Aren’t you kinda big for an Irish guy?
“Traditional” Irish guys seem to be on the short and short-legged side. Then there’s the bulky beer-drinking Irish types. Which may be Boston Irish. I worked with a Boston Irish guy – nice Bawstun accent, faded red hair, pink skin, freckles, big smile, smiling blue eyes and wouldn’t say no to a brew. This was back when I worked in Cambridge, MA.
New job is great but dang, it’s a LONG day with the commute! Thanks for the hope!
Cool!
