Ms. Q Is Back and She’s Got Back
Yesterday I returned home from a 7-night cruise.
Even though I did a lot of THIS:

And a little of THIS:

It wasn’t enough to keep up with THIS:

I shared a stateroom with my mom and uncle.
I shared the ship with thousands of strangers and maybe a dozen other relatives and their friends.
I’m still…digesting the entire experience.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
That is great. Keeping up with a work out routine is tough on vacation. When you’re on vacation I think we have that do what you like type of feel. Never been on a cruise but I hear the food is overwhelming.
Glad you had the opportunity.
Oooh, sounds like you had fun!
UT: Working out was my only escape from the stress of the trip.
The food was as advertised: overwhelming! I avoided temptation the first day but then went into, “Well, I’m on vacation” mode and began “vacation eating.”
This trip confirmed my expectation that cruises are not my thing…at least not at this time of my life.
Sue: There were fun moments. As I wrote, I’m still digesting the experience. It was in many ways surreal.
My takeaway: “If loving were easy, everyone would do it.”
Did you meet Gopher N Isaac? … Gavin Mc Cloud? … love @ sea?
eric: Nope! Nor did I meet Captain Stubin or the romancing Doc. The ship was full o’ family and couples and retirees. I did attempt to go to one “Single” thing – with my mom (”I’m single!” Me: You’re gonna cramp my style..not that I have a style…)
But the single’s mixer thing was practically empty – just a group of folks off in one section. So mom and I left and came back an hour or so later for the regular dance thing. I only went dancing once.
NICE!!!! I was wondering where you were.
Oh how fun! I’ve always been afraid of cruises because the first person I ever knew who went on a cruise told me, “All you do is eat all day!” And ever person I’ve asked whose been on one says that’s true. Still, it sounds SO relaxing!
Ricardo: Despite how long I knew about the trip, it still came upon me rather quickly. Packing for myself is no problem but handling the majority of the details for my mom and fielding calls with another relative and coordinating with the rest of the group…nguh.
Jill: I wish I could say that the trip was fun and relaxing but the best I can write is that it was “OK.” I am sure a cruise can be relaxing – many people have told me so. People have also said that cruises are lots of fun.
I need a vacation. I need to go back to South Africa and run along long empty stretches of beach and hear nothing but the sound of waves and the wind blowing through the trees.
We took a Disney Cruise. We managed to avoid eating 24-hours a day just because we were too busy. However, at meal time we sort of made up for it.
The workout room on the ship was very nice though I didn’t get to use it. The youngest child had no interest in ship-board activities and wanted me to watch him swim (which I was happy to do).
And while I didn’t use the workout room, it’s nice to know it’s as nice as it is should I ever cruise without the children in tow.
Our cruise was not as relaxing as I thought it could be — it may have been due to the fact I always had a little bit of worry about a child falling overboard, or falling down steps, or whatever …
delmer: The cruise had an entire spa facility. The workout room was pretty nice although try running on a treadmill with waves! I used the elliptical the first day because all the treadmills were taken but that was a good thing – I had something to hold onto! You could definitely hurt yourself if you’re using freeweights!
I had very little quiet time. I spent much of my time getting my mom ready and there were these endless photos. Herding cats and obsessively photographing the operation seemed to be the modus. I had the wrong mindset going in.
I don’t see me on a cruise the near future.
So it wasn’t relaxing then? I thought being trapped with a bunch of strangers on a huge boat in the middle of nowhere with sharks and hurricanes potentially everywhere and nowhere to go if a fire broke out would be relaxing!
I dunno…I thought at least not having any housework or cooking would be relaxing…
