Love Letters

Published by MsQ at 11:05 pm under Life, Relationships

I’ve been very busy these days. The great thing is that this isn’t stress-busy, just people-to-see, places-to-go type of busy.

I finally purchased a much-needed dresser. I got really tired of having 5 plastic storage bins stacked against a wall as my “dresser. ” Topped by a laundry basket.

Unfortunately this meant that I had to reorganize my clothes! It’s not officially summer yet …I guess I’m in Part 2 of Spring Cleaning.

I’ve reorganized my clothes, including putting stuff aside for charity, and dang, my armoire never looked so good inside. For the time being, no more scrounging around wondering where the heck a particular shirt is.

All this has lead to my tackling a closet. This particular closet is Scary. I tackled it much like I would tackle swimming in an icy mountain lake (not high on my list of Fun Things): I braced myself and jumped in.

Yow.

My closet is now empty and my place is a mess. Actually, it’s less of a mess as I put stuff into the now-empty storage bins that formerly held my clothes. In clearing out this closet I found a shoebox containing the entire romantic history between this one man and me.

I had a label on the box and I took a quick peek and though maybe I should just toss it. I mean this was ancient stuff. That was last night.

Well, tonight I took another look and it was more than just a collection of matchboxes, gift-wrapping and ticket stubs – it contained actual handwritten love letters! There were also photos of him and me. I looked a lot different in 1989. Permed hair, glowing skin.

I had no idea I was such a hottie.

Handwritten love letters. I only read one of them and it wasn’t particular mushy but it was sweet.

Back in the closet they go.

Emails, eCards, texting, messenging…

Some things never go out of style.

A handwritten love letter is one of them.

What a great find! I love stumbling across things like this — not love letters in my case, but letters from college friends. I have boxes of stuff that I’ve been moving since the early 80s. The only time I look in them is when I move. Even though I’d forgotten I was hauling some of this stuff around I’m always happy to see it again.

MsQ!!!!!!!! I had permed hair and glowing skin in the 80’s too …. REALLY! I thought I was part of a rock band. I was but we never played anywhere

I used to have a box of “things”. Love letters, good memory items, photos and such. I lost it somewhere in my many moves. I wish I still had it.

Busy can be good, although I was I was busy golfing instead of working. BLeacthhh!!

My closet is full of junk and clothes that do not fit. I seem to have grown in the chest ~(my pectoral implants) he haaa ….. I spose my “budda belly” is just a bit bigger too. You just can’t stop eating at a chicken buffet. Thump on my gut :-)

We all want to see the hair-doo!!! I put in a blogging request for that.

Sorry I have not stopped in for a while. Hope you are having a super weekend!!

The art of writing, by hand, is lost. I know I don’t like to right. But a love letter… Haven’t seen one of those in years. I don’t recall actually writing one myself.

Glad you were able to get to the cleaning. It helps a great deal.

My wife found my box of “love letters” a while back up in the attic. She teased me for a bit over it.

I also have a closet to tackle, but for a different reason. I’m laying down the new flooring this weekend and I still need to pull the carpet out of the closet. I’ve been rushing because I have some 12 hour days at work this week!

delmer: Yes, even though I knew it was a shoebox of love letters I hadn’t opened it in years. Handwritten letters! Very rare these days. The one letter I read was some news and some things like, “Miss you.” It was a long-distance relationship (another state!) otherwise I am sure there would be no letters! In this day and age, even “love email” may be rare!

I also keep some cards from friends, especially if they wrote a lot inside. It’s a fun way to recall what they were doing at the time. I tend to want to throw stuff out but then I open up a few cards, read what is inside and think…oh, so that’s why I kept it!

A bit of “hidden treasure” to be discovered again and again.

Speedy!! I recall your Rock Band and I thought you had a mullet and not permed hair? I wonder how you lost your box of “things”?

Pectoral implants? I vaguely recall your mentioning them but whatever makes you happy with yourself. I mean, you’re perfect just the way you are!

Hair-doo?? I don’t have any digital versions of me with big permed hair. I’d have to scan one in and I dunno.

No problem on your not being able to visit me here – I’ve been too busy to comment and visit my favorite blogs these days!

UT: I used to write letters all the time. I write lots of emails instead.Looong emails. Not so long anymore now that I have this blog as a writing outlet!

I used to have a lot of fun with writing letters – funky paper, interesting envelopes. But I wrote so much my hand would get tired. Every so often I make the effort to actually handwrite a letter and not try to type it up beforehand so it’s more free.

It’s great to have an organized home. I can’t see how other people can live with clutter and disorganization but a lot of people do.

HMTKSteve: you wrote “love letters”? Hmm. But you also had a journal or binder of short stories so writing “love letters” (why the quotes – were they works of fiction??) sounds like something you’d do. Plus there’s the whole gaming/role playing interest.

12 hour work days coming up?? Eeek!

I received more of them than I wrote. The ones I wrote are no longer in my possesion ;)

Yes 12 hour work days plus the added work of getting the room prepped for the flooring job on Saturday. I don’t drink anymore but my work partner suggested getting some beer for when the job is done. I may partake then…
