I used to practice yoga, but decided it wasn't for me. I never got the art of being present down, and realized my mind tends to run in several directions at once. It's one of my strengths for my work, so I didn't want to try to change it, and rick foo'ing up how I work.

I still have the breathing, even though I haven't really worked out in, uh, forever. (Tweaked the front of my hip something fierce, so anything would result in pain.) I think I have some of the grace, but the Sanskrit is fading.

I know that I used to look forward to classes. Unfortunately, it was tough getting schedules to line up so I could work and take classes. But, they've changed instructors at the fitness center at work, so I might give it try again. Or, I've been intending to try pilates.

As for what I took classes in - sweats, usually basic "sweats" gray or black, t-shirt, and maybe a sweatshirt to start in (until warm enough), and finish in. Sometimes, during the summer, I'd wear shorts instead of sweats.

If you're into yoga at all, and take a cruise - try practicing yoga on the ship. It's an experience. I fell out of an asana I hadn't fallen out of in years while on board ship.

Jill: I know I need to improve my flexibility. I don't have headaches or backaches in general. I do get chiro adjustments every so often - my back doesn' t hurt but I get tingling or numbness in various parts of my body and know..oops, due for an adjustment. I know I should do more proper movement classes (Alexander Technique) so that my running or strength doesn't throw me out of alignment but..

You had backaches that hurt to breath? Dang!! I have had sciatica in the past (not for years now) and some back strain but no regular aching. I try to protect my back that is for dang sure - crunches and not trying to lift too much or the wrong way.

I can't see saying "OH BOY YOGA" myself but then..who wudda thought I'd think the idea of running a marathon kinda fun? I just haven't started to train because of the time and the thought that hmm..might hurt myself. As it is, I run quite a bit and have callusy Runners' Feet and Toenails.

Ms.Q - I've been doing yoga for about a year and a half and it makes a big difference. I've always exercised at least since sometime in my twenties. It's not something I just wake up going, "Oh BOY YOGA TODAY!" or anything like that. Half the time I drag myself to class 'cause I know I should and half the time I get into class wishing it were over already. But seriously I haven't had a backache since I started except times when I've had to skip more than a week. It used to be that some morning I'd wake up with backaches that it hurt to breath, but not not anymore. I can tell a big difference in my flexibility too. And Margaret Richards from PBS Body Electric says that's one of the most important things to keep as you age...or something like that. :-)
