Jumping On the Technorati Favorites Train

Mr. Gary Lee is always up to something and the other day he added QMusings to his Technorati Favorites along with Stephen Fung and Ed Lau.

I have watched my Technorati ranking slowly increase but other than that, I haven’t really paid all that much attention to Technorati and what it means to yours truly.

I don’t actively promote my blog via link exchanges (Link to me and I’ll link to you! Blech!) preferring the old school method of trying to provide good content to my readers and participating in the conversations of other blogs.

Maki from Dosh Dosh is running a Technorati Favorites Exchange as part of an experiment in seeing how Technorati can be used to gain exposure for a blog as well as develop a broader reader base.

Is this a link exchange? Nope.

She writes:

“This experiment will not harm other blogs because it doesn’t affect their link count or readership base, nor does it leech traffic away from their websites in a dishonest way.”

“Expands your blog readership. You are more likely to receive visitors from Technorati if you are listed in the Top 100 most favorited list. Visitors are bloggers, which means that they are potential feed subscribers if you have quality content.”

I’m all for having more readers as well as helping my favorite blogs gain more traffic!

So what is Mr. Gary Lee up to?

Mr. Gary Lee took Maki’s concept and added a mini-link train. The link train is his way of promoting other blogs by increasing their rankings. They are not required to link back to him and I’m not requiring anyone to link back to me.

He included his rules, which I have copied here.

Here are the rules:

1) Write a short introduction paragraph about what how you found the list and include a link to the blog that referred you to the list.

2) COPY the Rules and ENTIRE List below and post it to your blog. To avoid duplicate content and increase the amount of keywords your site can accessible for, go ahead and change the titles of the blog. Just don’t change the links of the blog.

3) Take “My New Faves” and move them into the “The Original Faves” list.

4) Add 3 Blogs that you’ve just added to your Technorati Favorites to the “My New Faves” section.

Remember to also add the “Fave Me” link next to your new blogs (i.e. http://technorati.com/faves?sub=addfavbtn&add=http://www.yourfavesdomain.com)

5) Add Everyone on this list to your Technorati Favorites List by clicking on “Fave the Site.” Those who want good kharma will fave you back. If not, you will for sure get the benefits of faves from the bloggers who continue this list after you.
