Good one! What was I just thinking last night? Something like…what was it? It had to do with self help books and how I’ve read my fair share & know all about my various problems and what I’m “supposed” to do/feel/improve, but that my emotions or whatever never follow suit. Or something like that. I’m sure I was thinking it more eloquently at the time though.

Jill: I’ve read a gazillion self-improvement books. I get some “ah-ha” moments but it all depends on if I’m ready to do anything about it at the time.
I’ve read about how great and healthy meditation is over and over again and never did it regularly until recently. It’s like exercising - you can read all you want but you have to do the work!
I’ve been very fortunate in meeting guides throughout my life. At the age of 19 I was introduced to the term “codependent” and when I asked, “What is that?” books by John Bradshaw were recommended.
It took me years to unravel the ties that bind. We all have a pain threshold when it comes to self-improvement. To refer to our early “conversation” about not feeling pain and being numb, the drive for self-improvement usually comes when we want to end the pain.
So we may know that such-and-such is bad for us but we keep doing it anyway. Then one day, if we’re lucky, we’re in so much pain that we decide, THIS MUST END because I CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE. So we are motivated to make changes in our lives.
I actually haven’t read any “self improvement” books! Great comic though! I never really think about that kind of stuff…I just life life 1 day at a time and expect the worst, but also enjoy the smaller things. I can’t change who I am, so why worry!?!?
Also, Mom…I mean Mrs. Q…or the Qminator. I tagged you in the Geek Train! http://www.gregghawkins.com/the-geek-train-is-boarding/

Gregg: Have you read any business books? Many of today’s books like “Who Moved My Cheese” and “The 8th Habit” and “You, Inc.” use many personal development, self-awareness, empowerment, NLP, etc concepts so you may be reading more “self improvement” books than you think!
Oh, and self-improvement books generally encourage you to expect the best out of life but be prepared to deal with the worst. As well as enjoy the smaller things.
MRS. Q? MOM? Arrrgggh. I just checked out your Geek Train. Sigh. I DO NOT want to be known as some Internet Mom. I’d rather be well, a friend, someone who makes you think, someone who makes you want more for yourself, someone who is in her own small way is making the world a better place.
Glad you are Ms.Q.
