The South African Metrosexual

Published by MsQ at 10:19 am under QMusements, Tales From The Road

[Flashback: May 8, 2007]

When you think of South Africa what comes to mind?

Lions. Most people think lions.

Or giraffes. Elephants. Rhinoceros.

For most people, South Africa reminds them of big and possibly flesh-eating animals.

They’re out there. Those big fleshing eating animals. They are out in “the wild.”

However, in the cool marbled spans and the soaring atriums of the Capetonian malls, strides (or perhaps saunters or maybe strolls) the Capetonian Metrosexual.

He is not a shy beast. Quite colorful is his plumage and buffed and exfoliated is his hide.

Seriously freaky sweaters!

Ms. Q was afraid. She was very, very afraid.

Ms. Q is not froo-froo

She hid out in a froo-froo dress store. No one would think to look for her there.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

*giggle* What a charming way of expressing this! I would not be found in a froo-froo dress store.

Susan Q: I’m glad you enjoyed it! I had no idea this post would turn out this way. I’ve obviously had the photos for a while and I had started a totally different post a while ago.

It was very boorrrring to me. The photos were really the story in my mind. Then the wild animal idea came to me and I whipped out the post in 20 minutes!

You’re not into froo-froo either? Doesn’t surprise me. I mean, we share the same last name. Although..you can sing SO MUCH BETTER than I.

Oh! I think of Jewish women with thick accents…

I don’t think I could blend in at a foo foo dress store!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    :-) :-) :-)

    LOL… Funny. You’re very funny.

Sad though the thoughts that came to mind of South Africa. All I could think was diamonds and dirt. But I haven’t been to South Africa. In my mind I think the animals are far and few between. But it could be my current state of mind.

I’m bugging… But that was a funny post.

Jill: Your mind works in mysterious ways.

How about a Foo Fighter store?

As for me, you can see how nicely I blended in. Orange Crocs - the all-purpose match-everything footgear of choice for the DISCERNING hyposexual.

Get out your Latin books, folks.

UT: Glad you laughed! Yeah, some people might thing of famine. Or poverty. Or like you, diamonds and dirt. The animals are few and far between as far as I saw but didn’t go on safari where the game parks try to preserve the wildlife!

For me, apartheid and Stephen Biko come to mind about South Africa.

Oh, and Woolworths. But, I try to forget them. ;-) (Software customer of mine. Short version - big pain in the butt, but their heart was in the right place. They just needed to push the envelope so hard that it made our head spin.)

I think of Heather. Ah, Heather. She was cute, and she had the most amazing accent. I was in 11th grade and deathly afraid of girls when she moved to our school. I later learned that Heather thought I was really cute and wouldn’t have minded spending some time with me, as it were. At the time, of course, spending time with me would have entailed playing board games and shuffling through my Star Wars cards. Oh well.

    Ah, South Africa.

ack: yes, apartheid does come to mind for me, too! Stephen Biko does not come to mind, nor does Woolworths.

Metrosexuals definitely DO NOT come to mind, nor do freaky patterned sweaters in pastels mixed with pink. I dunno. I see those sweaters and think boater hats, flannels and white shoes .. very, uh, not sure what era that was but both sexes were pretty much covered in clothing - few exposed parts.

    the frogster:
So..were you gazing off into the distance as you thought of…Heather and Africa?? Star Wars cards? I had those. Too bad I let them molder in the basement and then threw them all out. For all I know they were a treasure trove if I had wanted to do the eBay thing.

Oh yeah…apartheid and Jewish South African women with thick accents…
