Beaver Pills

Published by MsQ at 1:38 pm under Blogging, Mom

My blog is finally back!

My hosting service had emailed me stating that the move was a Big Success and even ahead of schedule.

So I check and I cannot connect to my WordPress database.

I try to use online Chat with their Tech Support folks and they are too busy.

I decide that I would put my time to better use by drinking some red wine.

Red wine, a night’s rest and Still No Blog.

I emailed my hosting service.

Have a cup of coffee.

Have a second cup of coffee.

Blog is back.

So what was Ms. Q up to while her blog was moving from one Data Center to another?

In preparation for Cruisin’ With The Qs, I took me and mom for haircuts on Saturday. Mom needed color, I didn’t.  I also helped mom pack. It took me about an hour just to pack her pills. I brought those snack-sized ZipLoc bags and counted ‘em out.

Ms. Q: Mom, how many of these uh, green ones do you take?

Mom: Those are PICK-noh-gee-nall. Beaver Pills. Took me awhile to learn how to pronounce. They are EXPENSIVE. I take ‘em 3 days a week.

Ms. Q: Uh-huh. Maybe we can skip those then. Take a break. Save some money.

I look at the dark brown plastic bottle: pycnogenol.

Mom: I call em Beaver Pills ‘cuz they are made out of pine bark.

Watchoo Lookin' At?

Makes sense to me.

Mom takes a lot of supplements. I’m glad that most of her pills are supplements and not prescription drugs.

Then I helped her pack. It was inneresting.

Then I went home.

It’s been a long time since I’ve gone on vacation with my family. Family as in parents.

I gather people do it all the time.

I pondered my choices: Shall I or shall I NOT?

I shall.

I opened up a bottle of red wine.

Red wine contains antioxidants.

It seems that Beaver Pills contain even more.

No upgrade for your wordpress version while you were at it? That’s probably safer. But there was a pretty big release for 2.5 this weekend. The admin looks way different anyways.

Supplements are the worst. I never understand why those things are so big. And then you have to take two of each. I pop at least four different kind daily. You know I’m trying to get fit for summer.

    Beaver Pills… Funny.

Glad your blog is back up. You were missed.

Ricardo: I take supplements but mine all fit into those little supplement/dose packets - I take 9 pills (2 of ‘em are calcium citrate). Mom takes maybe 20 supplements and 6 prescription and 4 OTCs (for arthritis, poor thing).

I have pretty basic supplements: C-Ester, calcium, acidophilis, CoQ10, glucosamine, alpha-lipoic, flax seed (for Omega-3 since I’m allergic to fish), B vitamin blend and every so often, iron.

I checked email last night and responded. If you sent another email since then, I haven’t received it! My mail server was having issues though. Probably connected to my data center move!

Derek: I read about the WP release coming up so I figgered I may as well let this settle and then do a big upgrade…at some point! I only did a quick read on the new features. Currently have too much going on focus on an upgrade although I have been looking at new WP templates, primarily the ones by Sadish, the designer of my current template.

UT: Not all supplements are big. The CoQ10 ones are small! The Beaver Pills were clear capsules with what looked like finely ground pine needles.

Aawww, thanks for missing me! I did try to visit a few blogs in between sorting pills and packing!

You’re trying to get fit for summer? Huh. I had the impression you were always fit.

I’m not content with how I look. I want to take it to the next level.

I’ll take the red wine over the beaver pills ANY day!!!!

  7. MsQon 31 Mar 2008 at 6:10 pm

UT: Yow! You mean uh, it gets better??? :D

Sue: Me, too! Mom said the Beaver Pills were something like a buck a pill so she waits for BOGOs (Buy One Get One free) and the bottle has 60 capsules! Red wine is cheaper (especially the kind I buy).

Sometimes I get a bit lost when speaking with my mom. It’s like I’m entering some alternate universe. Example:

Mom: “Yeah, the Beaver Pills are really expensive so I wait for bogos and try to save more money but not taking them every day and spacing them out to every other day.”

Me: Please translate Beaver Pills and bogo. (rhymes with pogo like pogo stick).

Did you get the one I sent earlier today?

I take amino acids, whey protein shakes, vitamins, Omega 3, Liquid B-Complex and plant enzymes.

Yep, sounds very much like a Beaver Pill. I think I would prefer those to wine, though. I have the tastes of a child and would enjoy pretending I’m a beaver.

I like the idea of taking supplements, I just never do it. I get to the store and there are so many different kinds. It’s too hard to choose just one and too expensive to choose so many. The closest I ever get is swiping a couple of my kids’ multivitamins. They always “forget” to take them anyway, so there are plenty.

Jill: The kinds and types of supplements are overwhelming. But it’s difficult to get a good variety of food - I know I tend to eat the same things all the time. If anything, I’ve heard that having at least a good multivitamin is something to take daily. You ARE taking your calcium, aren’t you? :D
