Not Where My Passions Lie
“The Ultimate Guide for Passionate Shoppers…SHOES! DRESSES! BAGS!”

Of all the things I can imagine being passionate about, shopping isn’t one of them.
I mean, I can imagine being passionate about oh, stamp collecting, motorcycles, music, programming, writing, the nesting habits of what’s that bird, puffins?
But shopping?
Then again, there’s a lot I’m not passionate about that I wish I were.
Like volunteering.
Being passionate about retirement planning and investing would be helpful.
What I consider my passions some people consider obsessions. Or rather: obsessive or possibly, anal.
I love running. If I could, I’d run a lot more. I can actually understand the draw of ultra distance runners.
But I’d rather run the rest of my life than burn out my knees or something so I stick to 5-7 mile runs. I’d like to try a 10 mile run some day. Seems like fun.
I’m passionate about personal development and spiritual growth.
I have a thing for pens. Luckily, I am not much into expensive pens I’m just always on the hunt for smooth writing pens that don’t smear. I have had love affairs with various pens. But I am not a pen aficionado.
Anyway, this is just my long-winded way of telling you that I’m not going to subscribe to this magazine.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Would you have been more inclined to subscribe had the tag line been: Shoes! Dresses! Bags! Pens!
And do those items really need to be separated by exclamation points?
I used to run a lot — well, a lot for me. At least 3 miles a night with a 10K on the weekend. I did a half marathon once. I loved it and it was something I looked forward to doing.
After I got injured I took many years off. Last year (and the year before) I tried to get back into it. Both times I found that something that used to bring so much enjoyment now seemed so hard. I did run a 5K last year … and it about killed me.
LOL… Oh. That is good to know.
I like the setup. I wasn’t wondering where you were going with it. But I thought you would have asked what are you passionate about.
I’ve never been passionate about shopping either. I like pens though. The people at work know not to mess with my pens. I know when they are missing. It’s hard to find a good pen. The worst is when they stop making the pen you don’t like.
I do have a passion for sneakers. Oh… I love a well designed Dunk or AF1.
But, you can get a “no risk” issue!!!
delmer: I don’t mind reading magazines while waiting but I am not willing to pay for a subscription - even for a dollar an issue! I did subscribe to Consumer Reports but those things justs piled up and now I just have it online.
With respect advertising, I think the !!! Exclamation ??? Points ???? !!! are appropriate. Not that I need them but the advertisers seem to like ‘em. It’s probably their default separator.
Too bad about the running but I know you bike. I find bicycling torturous! I’ve tried it and even bought a nice bike but dang, not my sport. I’ve been running for so long that 3 miles seems like not much of a run for me, even when I’ve had to take time off. Now I work on speed although it’s not so much for competing, it’s just kinda cool to be faster and I love being fit. It’s so great to be able to floor it physically, with my heartrate zooming along and then I slow down or stop and I recover fairly quickly.
I was running up to 42 miles a week at one point but the most I do is probably around 35. Now I also do the elliptical.
UT: I had no real idea where I was going with the post. It wandered around a bit but I’m doing my version of “free writing” these days. I’ll give a pure free writing a shot at some point!
I used to like stainless Parker ball pens - I liked a bit of weight to my pens. Then I began writing postcards while on the road and wanted a really fine pen (I wrote quite a bit in a postcard) and ended up really liking the Pilot P-500s which have a needle point. Those are hard to find unless you go to Office Depot.
Then I went to visit my friends in Capetown and Shirley loves pens and she gave me a Faber-Castell SP-ICE. I didn’t much pay attention to it, what with still being in love with my P-500s (which I bought a box of) but then I found that the SP-ICE fine didn’t smear on slick surfaces (like some postcards have). It also had a smooth less scratch action. NEW LOVE! BUT NOT AVAILABLE IN THE US! When I went back she gave me a package of 5. I hoard them and watch ‘em like a hawk.
HMTKSteve: Eh, not much into going through “trial” issues and suchlike.
Trial issues are the worst. They have a habit of send you a bill later when you know good and well you had no intention of actually continuing the subscription.
Speaking of running… which leads to exercise in general… I pre-ordered my Wii Fit yesterday. I think I’ll be doing a series of articles relating to how it works out for me.
UT: My mom does the trial issue thing and she puts a reminder in her calendar to cancel after the trial period! So far, no big issues. UNLIKE her Comcast woes!
I am not sure why but my mom seems to be some kinda “We are experiencing technical difficulties” type of magnet.
HMTKSteve: I did see something about Wii FIT on your blog. Since I am totally out of the Wii loop (barring the funny YouTube parody of Amy Winehouse’s, “Rehab” as “WiiHab” that UT posted a while back…) my brain couldn’t really connect to it.
I haven’t really done fitness videos or even followed along on TV like when Jack Lalanne was on. He may still be on for all I know.
I hope that Wii Fit works out for you. You mean you aren’t fit already?
