Don’t Have A Near-Life Experience

GITF: Gratitude Improves The Feelings!

I get off the train and walk towards work.

I watch Mr. Brown head off in the opposite direction - his hair blowing in a somewhat triangular formation in his self-created breeze. He walks quickly with a slightly splay footed gait.

I see him at least once a week and he’s always wearing jeans, a polo shirt and a tan windbreaker.

Other people are rushing by, streaming out of the trains.

Today is a lovely day. The sun is burning off the clouds and the scent of jasmine rises up from the warming earth.

I hear birds singing and I watch the crows dart overhead.

As the sun shines upon my face I think about people who have had a near-death experience - how they see a tunnel of light and they want to head towards it. But then they decide to turn back because maybe their work here on earth is not done or someone needs them.

A common reaction to their near-death experience is greater empathy, a lessened fear of death and a greater appreciation of life. One woman I read about said that so much of what stresses other people doesn’t bother her because she knows that when it comes right down to it, most of what we stress about is not all that important.

I’ve watch Mr. Brown scurrying off the past couple of months, head bent, brows furrowed. He never looks around and avoids eye contact.

Rush-rush-rush.

Don't Wait

Don’t wait until you have a near-death experience to appreciate the life you have.

Don’t have a near-life experience.

I live for today. But not too much that I don’t have anything left for a possible tomorrow.

Lately I have been doing a lot of exploring of my life—and it is scary, but it certainly doesn’t qualify as “near life experience” anymore. I highly recommend it.

Even though, did i mention it was scary? Oh, well, I like rollercoasters, too.

delmer: You mean you’re not willing to share?

UT: That’s great! I tend to “live for tomorrow” and no so much the Now. I’m am trying to live more in the current moment!

christine: I’m glad you’re exploring your life and yeah, when you review your life and see that hey, you can do so much more with it, it can be scary! But like a rollercoaster, it can be exhilarating as well.

I am not a thrill-seeker but I have become more comfortable with trying new things and my attitude is slowly changing from one of “Uh…I’m not so sure about that…” to “Well, why not give it a shot? What’s the worse that can happen?”

Oh…the worse is that I “fail” learn something and do it better the next time…

YES!! That is the key. It’s way to easy to say “tomorrow”, or “sometime”. Today is always best.
Stressing out?? That one’s a little harder, no?? Some is healthy, and keeps us out of harms way. Other worries?? You can’t change certain things, others you can. Change what you can and that’s the best you can do. Sometimes I even just stop, make a plan of attack, and then procede.
Like you have eluded to in previous posts, having one of the kick azz days that we pick up on all things that are “good” around us are priceless.

    Is that you MsQ???? :-)

Speedy!! I still fight against a tendency to procrastinate or overplan! “Paralysis of Analysis” is the term that is used :D

BUT. Lately I have been moving towards “Giving it a shot,” “What the heck,” and “Why not now.” and buying a lamp on the spur of the moment, going out by myself to listen to some music, just being more nurturing and good to myself NOW instead of thinking that I have to save and plan for tomorrow. I ALLOW myself some fun and good shtuff. I still make plans but I now make an effort to “Plan” for play!

    alistair: hehehee! But also true.
